Exeptional matching numbers Douglas 90 plus in road trim for sale !
This is the 90 plus which was showed at the 2015 Concorso D’Eleganza Villa D’Este and which was entered at the special openings ceremony .
In the post war Douglas range, the 90 plus model was the best and most virtuous of the range. With only 218 ‘90plus’motorcycles made it was also the rarest post war model by Douglas. The 90plus was clearly aimed at the Manxman or junior clubman racer, with a top speed in excess of 90 miles an hour. Equipped with a huge 9’’ special front brake, highly tuned engine, heavily finned barrels, bigger Amal carburetors, close ratio gearbox, larger special tank, rev. counter etc. This was Douglas racing model aimed to compete with the Norton International model or the BSA Goldstar. Although Douglas 90plus models were never very successful in competition, Douglas offered the most modern racer and was in some respects ahead of its time.
This particular machine was purchased by a young pilot in Knebworth, Hertfordshire England in 1951. Originally registered CJV 781; in the early sixties it was used for Junior Clubman racing at Brands Hatch. After that it changed hands by several Douglas enthusiasts.
In the late nineties it was purchased by its present Dutch owner . Being basically a barn find, it was then being professionally restored for more than two years to the highest possible standard.
All fittings on this 90 plus model are to exact factory specs. From the encrypted Bowden levers to the Lodge bakelite plug caps ! it is fitted with the rare and correct ‘plus ‘series steel tank, genuine handed Amal 276 carbs, special close ratio gearbox 90/222, Smiths Chronometric Rev.Counter, etc.
Without doubt the best 90 plus in the world….
This Douglas 90 plus has a dutch registration and is fully functional.
