Classic Round Barrel Guzzi Cafe Racer / Endurance Racer Built around a Tonti Framed big twin 1000cc motor.
The “look” is early 1970′s endurance racer as it was used, rather than some shiny show pony – but each to their own! It is built using a lot of high quality new parts, but for the concours owner there is some room for improvement!
So….. what is it?
The frame headstock is clearly stamped 1976 VG Should become “Tax Exempt” Historic vehicle next year if the rolling 40 year rule continues? Fitted with Spada lower rails..Forks are standard with new dust seals and a nice (£125) aftermarket alloy brace.
The engine, has oil and filter changed, also gearbox and final drive oil changed. it starts and runs well with bags of torque and is pretty lively in this light guise! The gearbox is standard 5 speed Guzzi and again all works well, the final drive is standard Guzzi but has been skillfully deflanged and polished before I got it.
The front mudguard, tank with new fuel taps, side panels, seat and rear under guard are all new, bespoke handmade alloy items from the “Tankshop” some of the best and look fantastic! The Tankshop seat unit is reinforced behind with GRP and I had it professionally covered. There are lots of stainless fixings, CNC billet head protectors
Wheels are standard Guzzi and the brakes are now delinked with a new handlebar master cylinder and new Hel brake lines to accommodate this. The rear master is standard but now only does the one rear disc
The clip ons are bespoke stainless specials, with new Domino switch gear and lovely ally levers, The dash……… a big challenge this was! The centerpiece are a pair of big bold clocks, the speedo is a genuine Smiths 120 mph chronometric which is remarkably accurate according to my satnav! and this is paired with a close copy Swift (very expensive!) Chrono electronic tacho – my favourite bit on this bike!
The warning lights are Led as are the indicators, stop and tailights. Battery is new as is rear tyre and front has plenty of life left. The two exhaust downpipes are stainless, the H piece isnt! and the silencers are Harley I think and although they look good (and sound good!) there is a bit corrosion on the back of one of them.
So – I think a really nice bike, paint will be too shabby for some! So why have I decided to sell after all this work? Well Im 60! it is a big brute of a bike and although I love it, I have to be realistic and it would have been ideal for me 20 years ago – thats it! A bike for a young strong person!
Compare the asking price to what you would pay for a typical Brit Cafe racer and see what you are getting?
