A rare chance to buy a highly sought after Norton CS1. The first of the Norton overhead camshaft models, this model was the start of Norton’s illustrious racing history.
I have owned this motorcycle since 2008 and have now decided to part with it. Since I have owned it, it has been given several “healthy” runs at track days and has also been used for road work. It is a surprisingly fast machine!
As it has spent almost all of its life as a racing bike it has not been fitted with lights, speedometer etc and has several modifications that have been made over the years such as the cutaway chaincase cover, drilled brake pedal etc.
The VMCC factory dating certificate for the bike shows it was despatched to Pillings in Bury on 11th July 1929. The original buff logbook is supplied with the bike.
Interestingly, the bike was owned and raced by Ron Beecroft since the late 1940s until he passed away. It was then partially restored/recommisioned by the next owner, prior to coming into my possession. Ron (Roland) was one of the founder members of the VMCC in 1946 and was a regular competitor. Photographs of him racing this bike are included. One of them is notated with result of the 1957 Brighton Speed Trials with a standing start Kilometre in wet conditions with a top speed of 98.6mph! See what I mean about a fast machine!
The magneto has been overhauled, and the gearbox rebuilt. Although I have had to do very little to the bike whilst it has been in my ownership.
