There are very few of these Suzuki GS550MX Katana’s around anymore and so are becoming rarer and more sought after. This bike is 1981W reg and I have owned it since 1982 when I bought it from the original owner, therefore there have only been two owners.
I have the V5 as well as a Haynes Manual and a digital copy of the Suzuki Workshop Manual.
I have recently completed a full overhaul and restoration of the bike, this was a complete strip down and rebuild, apart from the engine which was in good condition having only covered 16,660 miles.
The restoration included the following…
• Frame and metal parts blasted and powder coated
• Forks ground and re-chromed and new bushes fitted
• Carbs stripped ultrasonic cleaning and rebuild including new jets
• New sprockets and chain
• New coils and HT leads
• New tyres
• Brakes overhauled and new pads fitted
• New rear suspension units
• New battery
There have also been numerous small parts replaced such as nuts and bolts, fuel lines etc. As far as possible I have used genuine Suzuki parts and where not possible such as the rear suspension I have used parts which are as close as possible to the originals. The bike is probably around 95% original with the main non-standard parts being the exhaust and rear suspension.
The bike presently has 10 months MOT.
In addition to the bike I also have a spare petrol tank, full decals set, front forks, clutch assembly and rear suspension units (these are however are in poor condition)
